Kinondo Kwetu is a small, all-inclusive luxury resort owned and operated by us, a Swedish family. But beyond the accommodations, food, and amenities you would expect, it also offers another kind of luxury. We are talking about the luxury of peace and quiet. Of freedom and rest. No pumping music at the pools. No noise from crowds at the bar. No jostling for space on the beach. No roaming trinket sellers. Kinondo Kwetu is a home, not an entertainment centre.
Kinondo Kwetu is situated on the south coast of Kenya, 1 ½ hours ride south from Mombasa, on the beach of the Indian Ocean. With room for no more than 38 guests, you will always find your own private spot at Kinondo Kwetu, which makes it a very special hideaway for honeymooners.
It is also the perfect place to gather family or fiends for a private celebration or wedding. With two kitchens in separate buildings, the place can easily be divided into two, making it possible for companies of 10-20 or 30-40 to stay for themselves. It is also the ideal spot for corporate retreats. On the grounds, you find two pools, one of them with a depth that allows training for PADI diving certificate, three horses, and, from February 2008, a tennis court. Kinondo Kwetu’s dhow and outriggers are out on the water, waiting to take you sailing.
Every room and cottage has its own personalized character, as it is furnished and decorated with Swahili culture handicraft and antiquities. All double rooms are equipped with king size beds and all rooms with fans and mosquito nets.
There is plenty of quite, beautiful spots where you can retire to spend time with yourself or in company, in the library or in one of the living rooms. Or outside, in one of the water towers, where you can watch the sun set over the mountains, on a cliff by the sea or in any of the secluded spots you find in the area.
Kinondo Kwetu is renowned for its cuisine, which benefits from locally produced fruits and vegetables. Three-course lunches and dinners are served al fresco, with fresh fish and seafood being natural favourites. We are happy to make any arrangements to meet with personal diet requirements and children’s menus.
The vast East African reef is there for you to explore, be it scuba diving, snorkeling, or by boat. Try deep-sea fishing. Or learn kite boarding, an exhilarating and eco-friendly sport perfectly suited for the southern coast of Kenya. We have our own PADI center, so if you are thinking of getting a diving certificate, do it at Kinondo Kwetu.
Sailing enthusiast? Our small Kenyan outriggers will give you lots of fun. Or come along on a cruise on one of our traditional dhows. Or go horseback riding on one of our horses.
We arrange excursions along the coast to nearby islands and up a river looking for crocodiles. And if you want to see wildlife, like elephants, giraffes, buffalos, antelopes, and other African animals in the wild, Shimba Hills National Park is only a short drive away.
A visit to Kinondo village and a daytrip into Mombasa will give you the spectrum of life in Kenya. We gladly drive you to both places.
Or maybe golf is your thing. No problem, there is an 18-hole course only 15 minutes away, wher you can rent clubs. As is also Ukunda airstrip, from which you can fly on safari to any of Kenya’s classic national parks.
