This luxurious family hosted lodge is situated on a 35,000 acre ranch on the northern slopes of Mount Kenya, 16 miles from the equator, adjacent to the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. Borana has a large drawing room, a cozy living room and grand dining room. All have fireplaces and sumptuous furnishings.
There are eight cottages at Borana. Four have large double beds and four have twin beds – both of which are queen size.
Each cottage has its own veranda except for the family cottage, where two cottages share a spacious veranda that has a phenomenal view over the dam.
Activities include game drives in the company of rangers and trackers with broad local knowledge of the area. Borana has a wide diversity of the Northern species of wildlife and is also a home to over 300 species of bird life supplemented by annual migratory species and there are over 50 indigenous tree families on the ranch. Night drives to see the nocturnal species can be arranged. Game walks are with experienced guides and one can explore the ranch on horse back. Drives to a nearby Mokogodo Maasai village can be arranged for local cultural experience.
8 large, tastefully furnished thatched cottage rooms with a bath, fireplace and verandah (2 adults and 1 child).
People with walking difficulties could find Borana hard to cope with as it is on quite a steep incline.
The Borana Lodge is closed during November.
