Stretching for 50km along the base of the rusty-gold 600-metre high Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara is a scenic gem, with a setting extolled by Ernest Hemingway as “the loveliest I had seen in Africa”. The compact game-viewing circuit through Manyara offers a virtual microcosm of the Tanzanian safari experience.
Losirwa’s location is a mere 2 hours drive from Arusha an ideal stopping point for those who are going further west to Ngorongoro or Serengeti National Park or south to Tarangire National Park. The location provides ample opportunity for game viewing and short nature walks to get a good feel of what’s to come.
Each of the 10 tented chalet is built on a slightly raised platform and covered with a traditional thatched (“makuti”) roof system to keep out the heat in the summer and to retain the warmth in the winter months. Screen doors and mosquito netting ensures a comfortable nights rest. Each chalet has an en suite bathroom complete with flushed toilets and hot water and decorated in an afro-chic style with use of salvaged dhow wood. Every chalet has an appointed valet who is available for the guest needs and the staff to guest ratio of 1:2 ensure efficient service.
Meals are carefully prepared every day depending on the season. Breakfast is typically a buffet setting while dinner is a 3-course prix fixe in a fusion of African, Asian and European delicacies. Coffee, tea and bar beverages are available throughout the day. For those residing at Losirwa- all meals are included in the package price. However, lunch services are available for those who wish to just utilize the camp’s restaurant before proceeding to their next destination.
The main camp is powered through photo voltaic cells connected to inverters. Stand by generators are utilized for kitchen equipment only. Water conservation is important and guests are encouraged to participate.

Accommodation is in 69 standard rooms, all with 2 queen size beds, carpeted, and tastefully furnished with local fabrics and pictures. One entering the room is a lounge with a mini bar. In the front is a verandah with 2 comfortable chairs and coffee table, with glass windows facing the vast Serengeti plains which extend as far as the naked eye can see.
1 of these rooms are suitable for the physically handicapped.The rooms have en-suite bathrooms and hairdryers.
4 very spacious double storey suites, with a lounge area on the ground floor where one can dine, sit out on the balcony facing the Serengeti Plains.Upstairs is the bedroom with a king size bed on a raised wooden platform, and on one side a bathtub facing the plains. There is an outside open shower as well. The interior of the suites are painted with the same colours as the main building, terracotta, mustard and blue, which is incorporated in the fabrics.
